ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze students' learning behavior in the teaching practice of the presentation-assimilation-discussion (PAD) class based on Xuexitong platform. Methods:The PAD class based on Xuexitong platform was applied to the course of child and adolescent health in the specialty of preventive medicine. And the data were collected from the platform to analyze students' learning behavior, including the number of visits and its rules, the completion rate and duration of homework submission, the completion rate of task points, and the number of students participating in discussions. Questionnaires were used to investigate students' evaluation of the learning effect. SPSS 17.0 was used for Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H, and Chi-square test. Results:A total of 99 students visited the platform 40 322 times over 84 days, with a peak on the day of the discussion class, with the highest number of visits from 16:00 to 20:00, and 29.3% (29/99) of them visited the platform for less than 40 days. The completion rate of homework submission was 98.0% (582/594), with 31.1% (181/582) of the person-times less than 6 hours of homework submission duration. The completion rate of task points was 99.0% (3 919/3 960), and the number of students participating in discussions was 3 (2,7). In total, 86.9% to 90.9% of the students thought that the five aspects of learning effect were partly or basically achieved. Conclusion:Students' learning behavior is good on the whole, but their participation in discussion is few, and some of them learn passively, which needs to be further improved.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To understand the development of extracurricular activities among students majoring in preventive medicine in a medical college and explore the impact of perception of extracurricular activities on major courses and extracurricular performances. Methods:A self-made questionnaire on the extracurricular perception was conducted, involving such aspects as organizational support, teacher guidance, student participation, etc. In August 2019, all senior students from Department of Preventive Medicine of a medical college were investigated by the questionnaire. At the same time, we had the extracurricular performances of the students from the Communist Youth League Committee and the major courses performances from the Academic Affairs Section of the Department. The Pearson test was conducted on the dimensions and total score of extracurricular perception, extracurricular performance and major courses performance to verify the impact of extracurricular perception on major courses and extracurricular performances. SPSS 19.0 was used for normality test, chi-square test and correlation analysis. Results:A total of 95 valid questionnaires were distributed and collected. It was noted that the total score of students' extracurricular perception was higher (66.23 points), among which, the highest score of teacher guidance was 73.10, while the lowest score of students' participation was 61.85. Extracurricular perception had a significant impact on major courses and extracurricular activities, especially in organizational support and teacher's guidance. Conclusion:Teachers play an important role in extracurricular activities, and students' participation is influenced by students and school factors. It is suggested that the school should pay attention to extracurricular activities in the process of cultivating college students, education environment should be optimized, funds should be guaranteed, the extracurricular courses should be improved, and the management system should be improved. For the teachers, teachers' professional level should be improved. Teachers should provide helpful guidance for students. At the same time, teachers should learn to use new technologies to build a better environment for students' learning. In addition, teachers should provide students with opportunities to be involved in extracurricular activities and create platforms. Finally, students should actively participate in all kinds of activities both inside and outside the school.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the effects of information literacy on participation in scientific research for medical students. Methods The self-administered questionnaire was used to survey the general characteristics, information literacy, participation in scientific research projects of junior college students, undergraduates, and graduate students who majored in medical specialties such as clinical medicine. The participation in scientific research includes the following statuses:those who did not participate in any project (group A),those only participating in the teachers' projects (group B),the team members of college students' projects (group C),and the leaders of college students' projects (group D).The data were tested using x2 test,one-way analysis of variance, and multinomial logistic regression analysis in SPSS 17.0 for windows. Results The survey recycled 1 236 copies of effective questionnaires.About 39.6% (489/1 236) students participated in scientific research. The scores of information consciousness, information ability, and information morality, and total scores had statistically significant differences among the four groups (P=0.000).The scores of information ability and total scores of group D (n=73) were higher than those of group A (n=747),B (n=93),and C (n=323) (P<0.05),respectively.With group A as a reference category, the scores of information ability of group D,C,and B had statistically significant partial regression coefficients (P=0.005,P=0.000,P=0.000,respectively),as well as total scores (all P=0.000).Conclusion High information literacy may be one of factors that promote students to participate in college students' scientific research projects.Various comprehensive measures should be taken to cultivate students' information literacy and improve students' scientific research ability.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the effects of achievement motivation and family environ-ment of undergraduates majoring in preventive medicine on creativity tendency. Methods The self-administered questionnaire was used to survey the general characteristics , achievement motivation , family environment, and Williams creativity tendency of undergraduates (n=243) from grade 1 to grade 5 majoring in preventive medicine in a medical college. The effects of achievement motivation and family environment on creativity tendency were tested with multiple linear regression analysis. SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis. The indexes between boys and girls was compared with group t test, and single factor analysis of variance was made for comparison between grades, SNK method was used to test and compare two groups; linear correlation analysis was made to inspect the correlation between the two indicators, and multiple linear regression analysis method was used for further analysis. Results The survey recycled 226 copies of effective questionnaires. The scores of achievement motivation, family environment, and Williams creativity tendency and all dimen-sions had no statistically significant difference among the five grades, or between the male and female (P>0.05). The positive influence factors of creativity tendency and its dimensions were pursuing success, the in-formative property, the entertaining property and organizational property, the negative influence factor was avoiding failure. R2 was 0.094-0.265 (P=0.000-0.048). Conclusion Achievement motivation and family environment of undergraduates majoring in preventive medicine may have posi-tive effects on creativity tendency. Various comprehensive measures should be taken to improve family environment and enhance achievement motivation, and to promote to increase creativity tendency, and to cultivate students' creativity and improve students' scientific research ability.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the effects of medical undergraduates' creativity tendency on participation in scientific research. Methods The self-administered questionnaire was used to survey the general characteristics,Williams creativity tendency, participation in scientific research projects of the junior students who majored in 10 medical specialties such as clinical medicine. The participation in scientific research includes the following statuses:those who do not participate in the scientific research project(NPSR,group A),those only participating in the teachers' scientific research project (PTSR,group B),those participating in college students' scientific research project as team members (TMSR,group C),and those participating in college students' scientific research project as project leaders(PLSR,group D).The differences of four dimensions scores and total scores of creativity tendency among four groups were tested using one-way analysis of variance. The effects of creativity tendency on participation in scientific research were tested with multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results The survey recycled 2 286 copies of effective questionnaires.About 39.1%(894/2 286) students participated in scientific research. The students were divided into A group(n=1 392),B group (n=108),C group(n=626),D group(n=160).The scores of adventure, curiosity, imagination, chal lenge and total scores had statistically significant differences among the four groups(P=0.000).The scores of adventure, curiosity, challenge and total scores of group C and D were higher than those of group A(P<0.05),respectively.With NPSR as a reference category, the scores of adventure(P=0.011),imagination (P=0.023),challenge (P=0.025) of PLSR had statistically significant partial regression coefficients, and the scores of adventure(P=0.009),curiosity(P=0.002) of TMSR had statistically significant partial regression coefficients. Conclusion High creativity tendency may be one of influencing factors that promote students to participate in college students' scientific research project.Various comprehensive measures should be taken to cultivate students' creativity and improve students' scientific research ability.
